British number one Andy Murray has taken to Twitter to thank his fans for their support after undergoing surgery on a back injury.

The 26-year-old Scot underwent surgery to sort out a disc problem in his lower back which has kept him out for the rest of the season.

However, he could resume pre-season training in Miami in November when the ATP Tour Finals gets under way at the 02 Centre in London.

Apparently the first things he said after the operation, was: "Did I win?"

Murray tweeted his fans: "Thanks for all the well wishes, means a lot to me."

Murray's US Open defence crumbled at the quarter-finals stage when he lost to Stanislas Wawrinka.

But his crowning moment was when he became the first British male Wimbledon singles champion since Fred Perry in 1936.
